Volunteer Music Group Lead

At Mountbatten, music is more than a comfort — it creates connection, dignity, and joy. We support individuals and families through some of life’s most tender moments, and our music group has become a cherished part of that care.

We are looking for a Music Group Lead to bring creativity, warmth and enthusiasm to this unique role. By leading inclusive and engaging sessions, you will help people express themselves, connect with others, and experience moments of joy and wellbeing.

This role is ideal for someone with musical ability, strong communication skills, and emotional resilience, who enjoys working with others and acting as an ambassador for Mountbatten.

As a Music Group Lead, you will:

  • Plan and lead engaging music sessions for people accessing palliative care, including inpatients, outpatients, and those in the community, as well as their families and loved ones
  • Work alongside a member of the Frances Sheldon Centre team to deliver safe and inclusive sessions
  • Adapt your approach to suit a wide range of abilities, needs, and energy levels
  • Encourage participation through group singing, playing, and creative musical expression, including improvisation
  • Create a welcoming, positive, and supportive environment
  • Help foster connection, reduce isolation, and enhance wellbeing through shared musical experiences
  • Set up and tidy away equipment before and after sessions

  • Are calm, patient, and emotionally resilient
  • Can adapt sessions to suit different learning styles, abilities, and health needs
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively, including with people who may have sensory or communication difficulties
