Our volunteers are there to listen to anyone who has been bereaved and live in Hampshire. We want to help as many people as we can but we need your help! We will be with you every step of the way with training and regular support.
You will be involved in:
- Offering a listening ear to a person who has been bereaved
- Helping us accurately maintain our records
What training will I receive?
- Te bereavement models and theories that are used to support a person who is bereaved
- Listening skills and an input in to how our volunteers look after their own health and welfare when supporting others
- Mixture of presentations, small group and pairs work
- Role play will be performed by the staff facilitating the training and not the volunteers
- There is no cost to training but we require volunteers to stay with us for a year
The training will be held over 3 days - 1 day a week over 3 weeks. You must be available on each session.
Skills
You will need to:
- Be DBS checked – which we will organise
- Be a compassionate and caring listener
- Be a good communicator
- Understand about patient confidentiality
- Be emotionally resilient in difficult circumstances
