Volunteer Driver

Our Volunteer Drivers help local people who may struggle to use public transport or have no other suitable way of getting where they need to go.

Using your own car, you’ll provide friendly, door-to-door transport for journeys such as medical appointments, shopping, social groups and other essential trips in and around Gosport.

Journeys are arranged through Gosport Community Support and you can choose which requests you are able to help with - there is no expectation that you will be available for every journey.

As well as providing transport, our drivers offer reassurance, a friendly face and a little independence to people who might otherwise struggle to get out and about.

Mileage expenses are paid. References and a DBS check will be required, and drivers must have a full driving licence, access to a suitable vehicle and appropriate insurance.

Skills

We’re looking for drivers who are:

• Friendly, patient and approachable
• Reliable and punctual
• Confident and safe drivers
• Comfortable supporting older and vulnerable passengers
• Respectful of confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
• Able to communicate with passengers and the GCS team
• Flexible - you can accept journeys that fit around your own availability

You will need a full driving licence, access to a roadworthy and appropriately insured vehicle, and appropriate motor insurance for your volunteering. We can provide guidance on what is required.
