Sleep Well Volunteer

The sleep well volunteer will provide practical and social support to patients preparing for night time on the ward.

What’s involved?

• On arrival to the ward report to the Nurse in Charge, sign in and receive advice on patients to visit on the ward
• Talking to patients, relatives, and ward staff
• Offer and provide hot drinks to assist with relaxing for sleep
• Answering a buzzer and locating a member of staff if needed
• Assist patients preparing for sleep, which may include the following tasks:

1. Clear patient tables (not including bodily fluids)
2. Offer patients ear plugs and eye masks if required
3. Support will switching off Hospedia screens and lowering lighting 

• Report back any concerns they have to the registered nurse caring for the patient
• Replenish water jugs for those patients who are not fluid restricted or require thickened fluids

• Excellent communication skills
• Willing to learn and to follow instruction from members of staff
• Good attention to detail
• Committed to help and support staff and the ability to liaise with professionals at all levels
• Punctual and reliable
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Understanding of the need for confidentiality
