Dementia Support Volunteer

At any one time in our hospitals, we can have a large proportion of our patients living with dementia in our beds and many are without the support of family. Hospitals can be a frightening place for anyone but for those patients living with dementia it can cause increased agitation, distress, and anxiety. As a dementia support volunteer you will help provide those patients with some much-needed support during the long days in hospital to prevent boredom and isolation leading to increased anxiety.

You will be providing companionship and support to identified patients living with dementia. This can include support with activities such as memory boxes, puzzles, reading books, conversation and word games.

You will have contact with loved ones and carers and be able to provide them the support needed as well.
