Visitor Experience Volunteer

Volunteers are vital to the continued running of Diving Museum. Visitor Experience Volunteers are responsible for visitor support in the Diving Museum. They provide a warm and friendly welcome to visitors during opening hours, answer questions from visitors, deal with enquiries and, where necessary, direct them to the appropriate member of staff. Visitor Experience Volunteers engage with and supervise all visitors in the Diving Museum and support colleagues.  

Volunteer tasks 

• Welcoming visitors to Diving Museum and responding to queries in a helpful manner. 
• Sale of entry tickets and shop merchandise.
• Answering enquiries from members of the public.  
• Supervision of visitors to the Diving Museum with regard to health and safety and maintaining Diving Museum procedures. 
• Assisting with the evacuation of visitors in an emergency.
• Ensuring the overall tidiness of the Diving Museum. 

Skills

• Volunteers from all backgrounds and experience are welcome, especially those who have an interest in working in the museums and heritage sector.
• Diving Museum volunteers should be polite, friendly and helpful to all visitors.
• You will need to have good observation and conversation skills and have an eye for detail.
• Punctuality, reliability, and interpersonal skills are important, as is a willingness to take responsibility for areas such as health and safety.
• The role is suited to anyone who enjoys meeting people and likes working as part of a team.
• You will be volunteering under the guidance of the Museum Manager, but much of the time you will be working unsupervised.
• You will be on your feet for most of your time but there is seating for you to use.
