As a volunteer with the Memories Group you will help create a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive environment for people living with dementia, memory loss, and their families, friends, and carers. Volunteers play an important role in helping members feel comfortable, valued, and supported while taking part in social activities, music sessions, conversations, and community events.
Volunteers will assist with setting up and tidying away activities, greeting members on arrival, serving refreshments, and offering companionship throughout sessions. The role involves encouraging participation, listening with patience and understanding, and helping individuals engage confidently in activities while respecting their independence, dignity, and personal choices.
No previous experience of dementia care is required, although a caring nature, good communication skills, and reliability are essential. Volunteers should be empathetic, respectful, and able to work as part of a team. Training, guidance, and ongoing support will be provided to help volunteers make a positive difference in the lives of those attending the Memories Club.
