The museum was established in 2011 by The Historical Diving Society and until may 2025 was solely run by volunteers. in May 2025 due to funding 2 staff members were recruited however is still very much volunteer led. It is undergoing a redevelopment and the museum is due to reopen in February 2026. The museum can offer volunteering roles in Front of House, grounds maintenance, and collection care. Although the main office is in the ARP bunker the roles will be based at the museum site, No.2 Battery, Stokes Bay Road, Gosport, PO12 2QT
