Operations Director - Voluntary Role

Volunteer Operational Lead

Location: Winchester
Time commitment: Flexible – to be agreed with the volunteer
Role type: Volunteer

About the role

We are looking for an organised, practical and enthusiastic Operational Lead to help Unit 12 CIC develop the way we run our community centre and make the best possible use of our building, resources and volunteers.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys making things work better. You might have experience in operations, project management, facilities, administration, business or community organisations – but we’re equally interested in someone who simply has good organisational skills, common sense and plenty of ideas.

The role is not intended to be a hands-on facilities or caretaker position. Instead, the Operational Lead will help us look at the bigger picture, identify improvements and help turn ideas into practical action.

What you could be involved in

  • Reviewing and improving how Unit 12 operates
  • Helping develop efficient systems and processes
  • Looking at how we can make the best use of our building and community spaces
  • Helping coordinate the use of rooms and facilities
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the experience of community groups, hirers, volunteers and visitors
  • Helping develop procedures and ways of working
  • Supporting volunteer coordination and helping ensure volunteers know what is expected of them
  • Identifying operational problems and helping find practical solutions
  • Helping with projects to improve the building and facilities
  • Working with the directors to develop new ideas and opportunities
  • Helping ensure that projects are properly planned and followed through
  • Looking at ways Unit 12 can work more effectively and sustainably
  • Bringing a fresh pair of eyes to how we do things

What you’ll get from volunteering with Unit 12

You’ll have the opportunity to use your existing skills in a way that has a direct community benefit, while helping shape the future of a growing local organisation.

You’ll be able to:

  • Make a genuine difference to how Unit 12 operates
  • Take ownership of projects and see them through
  • Use your experience and ideas to improve a community organisation
  • Develop new skills and experience
  • Meet people from across the local community
  • Work alongside the directors and other volunteers
  • Help shape the future development of Unit 12

We’re looking for someone who can bring energy, ideas and a practical approach and who would enjoy being part of making Unit 12 the best community resource it can be.
