Cancer Services Support Volunteer

The Nick Jonas Ward is our chemotherapy day unit and runs outpatient clinics in oncology, hematology and palliative care. In addition to chemotherapy, systemic anti-cancer, supportive treatments and counselling sessions are provided. 

What’s involved?

• Meeting and greeting – signposting patients to reception/clinics
• Noting patients’ arrival on the white board
• Ensure the patient waiting room has adequate supplies and is kept tidy
• Visiting/befriending patients whilst receiving treatment
• Providing refreshments
• Collect/deliver items to other departments – post room/pharmacy (not controlled drugs)
• Helping on reception desk, for example, answer the telephone/take messages in the absence of Nursing staff/Ward Clerk
• Leaflet displays/information points – ensuring they are kept up to date and restocked
