Befriender

Would you like to make a real difference in your community?

Stubbington and Hill Head Voluntary Care Group is run entirely by Volunteers. We offer a free Befriending service to anyone in our area in need of support, particularly those with loss of mobility, housebound or elderly. We also offer a car transport service to any type of medical appointment in the local & surrounding area.

We need additional Befrienders. You can opt to either visit a client’s home, perhaps for a cuppa, or just chat to them on the phone.

You would offer the client regular company, as agreed between you & the client.

Clients come to us either directly or by referrals from family or outside agencies. The Befriending Coordinator will have visited the client to confirm what they would like from the service and will then match you with a client.

Our service is greatly welcomed and appreciated by our clients. Helping our clients can give you a great sense of purpose and the chance to talk to new people. You would be joining a very friendly and helpful team.

Skills

You should enjoy talking and listening to people, especially the elderly.

A friendly and compassionate personality is needed. Our clients may have reduced sight or hearing, or may suffer from early Dementia, so you need to be patient and kind.

You must be able to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
