Collection Box Coordinator for Guide Dogs

There are around 2 million people living with sight loss in the UK. Guide Dogs, a UK-wide charity, supports people with a visual impairment to maintain their independence and live the life they choose.

There are lots of different services on offer, ranging from volunteer-led services such as sighted guiding through to support for children and young people, access to technology, and the iconic guide dog service. It costs around £55,000 to train and support a guide dog partnership throughout the dog and owner’s life.

Our Fundraising volunteers play a significant part in enabling us to continue to provide these services. We are looking for people to volunteer as Collection Box Coordinators across our area. Would you be able to place our iconic boxes locally as part of your daily life and every few months tally up the funds before paying them in to Guide Dogs?

The time commitment for this role is very flexible, and would include spotting opportunities to place boxes during your daily activities.

What does the role involve?

• Identifying and placing collecting boxes in suitable locations
• Talking to the shop owner, receptionist etc. at the location about how the boxes will help Guide Dogs and what we do
• Emptying boxes every 3-6 months (as they get full) and banking the income. Give a receipt and letter of thanks to the hosts
• Keeping a written record of the location of all boxes, the dates they are emptied and the dates/amounts banked
• If boxes aren’t collecting much, moving them to a better location
• Spotting the potential for further fundraising amongst the box holders for the Community Fundraising Group
