Treasurer Trustee

The Carroll Centre is looking for a Treasurer Trustee to join our friendly and committed Board and help shape the future of our much-loved community centre in Stanmore.

The Centre is based in one of Winchester’s most disadvantaged communities, providing a range of services and activities that make a real difference to local children, families and residents. We are an ambitious charity with a clear mission: to strengthen our community and improve people’s lives.

With an annual turnover of around £300,000, a small staff team and a combination of earned income, grants and donations, the Carroll Centre is financially diverse but, like many small charities, operates in a challenging environment. The Treasurer will play an important role in helping us maintain strong financial oversight and build a sustainable future.

You don’t need previous charity trustee experience. What matters most is relevant financial experience, a commitment to our community and a willingness to contribute your time, ideas and expertise.

Everything we do is underpinned by our values of being open, inclusive, non-judgemental and supportive.

This is an exciting opportunity to play an important role in the future of a charity at the heart of its community, helping to reduce inequality and improve opportunities for local people.

The role

The Treasurer will provide financial oversight and advice to the Board, helping to ensure that the Carroll Centre’s resources are managed responsibly, transparently and in support of our charitable objectives.

The Treasurer will:

· Monitor the charity’s financial position and advise the Board on financial matters.

· Chair the Finance Committee, which meets quarterly.

· Support the Board in understanding financial risks, opportunities and longer-term sustainability.

· Oversee the preparation of budgets, management accounts, financial reports and annual accounts.

· Ensure appropriate financial records and controls are maintained and that the charity meets its legal and regulatory obligations.

· Provide oversight and support to our outsourced accounting agency and, where appropriate, liaise with staff responsible for day-to-day financial administration.

· Contribute actively to the strategic direction, governance and development of the Carroll Centre as a member of the Board.

· Help ensure that financial decisions are aligned with the charity’s mission, values and long-term plans.

Skills

We are looking for someone with:

· Experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping or a related field.

· The ability to understand and explain financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues.

· A willingness to ask questions, provide constructive challenge and support good decision-making.

· An interest in the work of the Carroll Centre and a commitment to our mission and values.

· The time and enthusiasm to contribute as an active member of the Board.

Previous experience as a charity trustee is not essential. We will provide support and an induction to help you understand the role and the Carroll Centre
