Tool Collector

A Tool Collector is our first contact person in their local area. They help us collect donated tools from the public.

When someone wants to donate tools, they can contact you by email or phone. We will provide you with a Tools with a Mission (TWAM) email address that will appear on our website. We will only share your phone number with people who call our office (if they don't use email).

You can then arrange to pick up the tools from them or have them delivered to your house, depending on your preference. You will then store them until the TWAM van comes to collect them. This can happen on a regular schedule or when you request a collection from your assigned Van Manager.

Many collectors also advertise themselves in local magazines and notice boards.

You will be part of a great team and enjoy the visits from the TWAM Van Teams and the invitations to volunteer days. You will also receive a TWAM polo shirt and fleece.

This is a very rewarding role as you get to interact with the public and share our story with them. Many are happy that we are using their tools instead of throwing them away. You will feel a real excitement from many of the collections.

Skills

We are looking for Tool Collectors who are passionate about our mission and the transformative power of tools. We understand that many people who donate tools have experienced a loss, so we value people who can listen and empathize rather than hurry away. In other words, we need kind and friendly people!

If you want to drive to collect tools, you must have a valid UK Driving License. But if you prefer to be a drop-off point, you don't need one.

We also have to make sure that your motor insurance is adequate and your car has an MOT certificate. This is not required for a drop-off point, though.

You will also need some space where you can store the tools until the TWAM van picks them up.
