Rona Sailing Project volunteer (shore based)

We are you looking for someone seeking a small, local volunteering role helping out a local charity based at Universal Marina for a few hours each week.

Our long serving volunteer is stepping down after many years and we would love to welcome somebody new. Tasks will be varied and might include emptying the recycling bins, cleaning the workshop/hangar, creating boxes of cleaning equipment/fluids for sail training voyages, tidying equipment including wellies and waterproofs, helping with food stores, laundry and more.

Our previous volunteer came on Tuesday mornings but we can be flexible if this doesn’t suit you. To find out more information, please contact office@ronasailingproject.org.uk or you are welcome to pop in and visit us to meet the team and find out more.

Skills

No qualifications or previous experience required.

The Rona Sailing Project is a charity which takes young people and disadvantaged adults on residential voyages on its three large sail training boats. We are about building self-esteem, teamwork, confidence, resourcefulness and resilience through being on board boats with other crew members. The Project supplies all the food, cleaning products, safety equipment including waterproofs and maintains the vessels in the workshop/hangar.

This role would suit somebody who is happy in a working marina environment which can be warm in summer, cold in winter, sometimes dirty/dusty, sometimes smelly.

You will be helping a small team of staff (5) including administrators, engineer and shipwright. We need you to be able to follow instructions, ask for help or guidance when needed, be reliable and able to communicate with us.

We can adapt the role to suit your skills and interests, for example driving our crews to and from the station.

We will ask you to carry out a DBS and online safeguarding training.
