Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking and over-whelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone; and all parents can struggle at one time or another. That is why Home-Start is ready to support families through their toughest times, "Because childhood can’t wait".
Home-Start works with families in communities right across the UK. Starting in the home, our approach is as individual as the people we’re helping. No judgement, just compassionate, confidential help and expert support.
At the heart of Home-Start are our volunteers; and
here at Home-Start Hampshire we are looking to increase our already extensive
network of volunteers.
Full training is provided and ongoing support is always available from staff. Our next New Forest prep course for onboarding volunteers will begin in late autumn 2025.
Skills
Our Family Support volunteer team are matched with a family to provide emotional and practical home-visiting support. Support takes place weekly in the family home for 2-3 hours at a time that suits you.
Our Family Support volunteers:
- Are given full free training for their role.
- Have parenting experience themselves or significant career experience with families and children.
- Have a positive, non-judgmental attitude; and are sensitive and caring towards others.
Why volunteer?
As well as positively changing the lives of others, volunteering has a huge impact on the person giving their time. Research shows that our volunteers see:
- better health and well-being
- improved personal and skills development
- improved chances for work
- and more self-confidence
Volunteering is a great thing to do if you’re preparing to return to work or to progress your career. Or simply if you just want to do something amazing with your spare time (just a few hours of your time can make a HUGE difference to the work we do).
All applicants must be aged 18+ and all roles are DBS checked.
