Food Waste for Compost Assistant

Strange role, we know, but if you are happiest when you have your sleeves rolled up and you don't mind a mucky job then we would love to hear from you. 

New Forest Aquaponics are the home to many local projects that support and educate ecological living. Our food project redistributes surplus food from supermarkets, thanks to a team of volunteers who go out in all weathers to do the collections. Have a look at our website to see how we do everything possible to prevent the food from becoming waste. When we do get to the point that the food is not fit for consumption, we compost it. This is where you come in. Based at our site on Hampton Lane in Blackfield, SO45 1WE, you will help us beat the mountain of food that needs to be composted.  It is as simple as filling our compost buckets with the food to be composted. However, you will be saving huge amounts of waste from going to landfill. You don't need a strong stomach, the food is usually less than a few days out of date. 

This work can be carried out inside, if the space is not in use, so winter shouldn't be too challenging. We will provide gloves and aprons for you to use. 

Days are flexible, but we would like to set a regular day and time with you attending for a minimum 3 hour slot each session.

Skills

Able to commit to regular attendance once a week.

Available for a minimum of 3 hours each session.

Able to lift filled buckets (household size bucket).

Happy to work outside, in all weathers (hall will be made available as often as possible).

Happy to work alone and with other volunteers (there will always be someone on site with you).
