Emergency Department Frailty Support Volunteer

To support the frailty team in the emergency department in looking after frail and elderly patients.

What’s involved?

  • Working with the Frailty Team, in the Emergency Department, to help them look after older adults living with frailty
  • Making sure that our older adults have had something to eat and drink on arrival
  • Encouraging patients to eat and drink
  • Collecting used cups/plates
  • Recording what the patients have eaten and drunk and reporting back to the Frailty Team
  • Befriending, providing reassurance and support to our older adult population in a busy environment when giving someone that time and comfort will be invaluable and much appreciated

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willing to learn and to follow instruction from members of staff
  • Good attention to detail
  • Committed to help and support staff and the ability to liaise with professionals at all levels
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of the need for confidentiality
  • Able to stay calm in an emergency
  • Ability to put people at ease
  • Friendly and approachable
