About Us
We’re a friendly, community-focused charity running a welcoming local community centre. Every week we bring people together through activities, services and partnerships that support local families, older residents, clubs, groups and community organisations.
At the heart of everything we do are kindness, inclusion and a strong sense of community — making sure everyone feels welcome and supported.
The Role
We are looking for a supportive and values-led Chair of Trustees to help lead our trustee team.
This role is about helping the Board work well together and making sure the charity stays on track — it’s not a day-to-day operational role, and you won’t be expected to “run” the centre.
You’ll work closely with the Centre Manager and Business Administrator, offering guidance, encouragement and a steady presence, while helping trustees make good decisions and keep the charity moving in the right direction.
What You’ll Do
As Chair, you will help to:
- Lead and support the trustee team so everyone feels confident and included
- Chair trustee meetings and the AGM in a friendly, organised way
- Work with the Centre Manager / Business Administrator to set meeting agendas and keep things moving forward
- Help trustees focus on what matters most for the charity and the community
- Make sure the charity is being run responsibly and in line with charity rules and our governing document
- Be a listening ear and a sounding board for the Centre Manager when needed
- Help create a positive, respectful Board culture where people can contribute openly
- Represent the charity occasionally (for example at community events or meetings), if helpful
What You’ll Gain
- A chance to make a real difference locally
- The opportunity to be part of a supportive and friendly trustee team
- Personal development and learning (with training and guidance available)
- The satisfaction of helping your community thrive
Support
You’ll be supported by an experienced trustee team, along with the Centre Manager and Business Administrator. We can also provide charity governance guidance and training where needed.
Skills
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
- Cares about community and shares our values
- Enjoys bringing people together and helping teams work well
- Can offer calm, balanced leadership and good judgement
- Communicates well and listens thoughtfully
- Is supportive, fair and able to guide conversations and decisions
- Has experience in leadership, strategy, governance or decision-making (trustee experience is helpful but not essential)
You do not need to have been a Chair before. If you’re the kind of person who wants to give something back and can help a group of people work well together, we’d love to hear from you.
