We are looking for friendly bucket collector volunteers to attend events and public venues (as arranged by the fundraising team) to collect donations from members of the public. You will not be required to count donations as this task will be completed by Wessex Cancer Support staff.
The Organisation:
Wessex Cancer Support provides local cancer care support services for adults living with cancer across the Wessex region – Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. Cancer support services include: counselling, complementary therapies, befriending, transport for Isle of Wight and Channel Island, singing support groups, and financial help for cancer patients and their families.
When:
Opportunities could occur any time of day during weekdays and weekends. Please specify in your application your availability.
Where:
Location will vary depending on where a fundraising opportunity is in the Wessex region and where you are located within Hampshire or Dorset. We will always ask if you are willing to travel to the event location and we won’t make unreasonable travel requests. We are happy to cover reasonable travel expenses, which must be discussed with your fundraising contact.
Skills
The person we
are looking for needs to be:
- Aged 16 or older
- Polite and has a friendly and approachable manner
- Happy to interact with members of the public
- Able and willing to travel, either by own vehicle or on public transport
- Happy with lone working. These occasions may vary but you would be notified in advance
- Happy to be on their feet for periods of time as cannot guarantee every opportunity will involve option to sit down while collecting donations
- Willing to wear a photo lanyard while on duty (this will be provided by Wessex Cancer Support)
- Must abide by the Code of Conduct (this will be provided separately once applied)
You should also have:
- Fun and outgoing personality
- Enjoy meeting new people and be friendly and approachable
- Good at using own initiative
- Able to use excel spreadsheets and comfortable counting cash donations
- Access to a car or local transport
- Reliability
- Have empathy for patients and families affected by cancer
