Volunteer Telephone Befriender

Do you have a few hours to spare on a weekly basis? Do you want to support Older People in your local community?

If so, this is the role for you!

Volunteer Telephone Befrienders provide support and friendship to older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated over the telephone.   You can call them regularly, at a time that suits you both, and have a friendly chat about anything that interests you. You can also offer emotional support, encouragement and reassurance to someone who may be going through a difficult time. 

Skills

  • Are aged 18 and over
  • Good listening skills
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of the needs of older people
  • Ability to keep records of calls made
  • Flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • A clear sense of personal boundaries and confidentiality
  • Able to provide non-judgemental support
  • Engage with training and development.
