The role of a volunteer assistant within Fareham Community Link setting is to improve and enhance the enjoyment, wellbeing and lives of the people who attend. A key part of this volunteering role will be to provide company and support to the people attending our day service.
This role is not a substitute for paid work, but your time and enthusiasm will greatly compliment the work of the staff team at Fareham Community Link.
We would welcome any enthusiastic volunteer on any day of the week.
Main tasks:
These will be individualised to each volunteer and defined as you enjoy the various opportunities.
· Befriending and talking with people; taking an interest in their life stories.
· Supporting people to take part in activities i.e. craft, cooking, reading, dance.
· Accompanying people on trips into the community with the support of the staff team.
· Helping people to learn new skills like making a cup of tea, knitting, baking, gardening.
Skills
Skills and knowledge:
· Patient and caring nature
· Good listener
· Ability and willingness to volunteer within a wider team.
· Able to want to learn how to communicate with people who may have complex needs.
· Non judgemental
· Additional skills that may be useful i.e. craft, baking, music, reading, gardening, woodwork.
Experience:
No experience is necessary to volunteer within Fareham Community Link, however if you feel that you have a particular skill that would benefit the service please let us know.
Training:
If your time with us as a volunteer is designed to further your career and enhance your C.V. or maybe you want to learn more about the caring profession; then please let your supporting staff know and we can arrange for you to attend in-house training sessions and work through training packages that will lead to a much greater understanding.
