Volunteer as a Trustee with 1st Headley Scout Group! Join our board to help shape the future of Scouting in Headley and support young people to develop skills for life.
1st Headley Scout Group has been an active part of the local community for around 100 years. Based in beautiful woodland surroundings in Headley, Hampshire, we provide young people aged 4 to 14 with fun, adventure, and opportunities to develop skills for life.
Our sections are led by a dedicated team of volunteers who help young people learn, grow, and achieve their goals. Our Trustee Board supports this work behind the scenes by ensuring the Group is well-run, safe, and sustainable for the future.
About the Role:
We are looking for additional Trustees to join our friendly and committed Trustee Board.
As a Trustee, you’ll help oversee the governance of the Scout Group’s resources, property, and supporting the delivery of great Scouting experiences for our young people.
You don’t need to have previous trustee experience – we welcome enthusiastic individuals who want to make a positive impact in their community. Full support and training are available through The Scout Association.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Attending quarterly Trustee Board meetings and contributing to discussions and decisions.
- Supporting subgroup work.
- Ensuring the Group operates safely, legally, and in line with Scout Association policies.
- Helping plan and support community activities such as local fetes, Remembrance, and fundraising initiatives.
- Acting as an ambassador for Scouting within the local community.
What You’ll Gain:
- The chance to help shape the direction and success of a long-established community group.
- Experience in charity governance and teamwork.
- The satisfaction of helping provide young people with skills, confidence, and opportunities for life.
- A supportive and friendly volunteer environment, with opportunities to develop new skills through Scouting’s national training and resources.
Skills
What We’re Looking For:
- Enthusiasm for supporting young people and local Scouting.
- A willingness to work as part of a team and contribute ideas.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ideally some awareness of charity or community governance (though not essential).
- Local knowledge or connections within the Headley area are a bonus.
Our Commitment:
We’re committed to making volunteering with us fun, rewarding, and flexible. Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or completely new to Scouting, we’ll make sure you’re welcomed and supported every step of the way.
