Our Squirrels may only be 4–6 years old, but their enthusiasm is enormous – and we’re looking for a few more adults to join the team that makes their adventures possible.
You don't need any Scouting experience. You don't need specialist qualifications. And you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to do.
You just need some patience, enthusiasm, a willingness to join in and an interest in helping young children discover just how much they can do.
What does volunteering with Squirrels look like?
Expect games, crafts, stories, challenges, exploring, making things, learning new skills and occasionally a little bit of organised chaos!
As part of the Squirrel team, you could help:
welcome and encourage our young Squirrels
run games, activities and simple challenges
help children try something new
share a hobby or skill of your own
plan activities alongside the rest of the volunteer team
turn an ordinary session into something they'll still be talking about on the way home.
You'll have other volunteers around you, plus training and support to help you get started.
Do I need experience?
No.
Some of the best Scout volunteers had never been involved in Scouting before they volunteered.
Your life experience matters far more. If you're friendly, reliable, willing to learn and happy to be a positive role model for young children, we'd love to hear from you.
What's in it for you?
Volunteering with Squirrels is a chance to do something completely different from everyday life.
You'll meet new people, develop skills, have fun and experience the particular satisfaction of watching a child go from “I can't do that” to “Look what I did!”
And you don't have to give up your entire week to make a difference.
A little of your time can make a very big difference to a small person.
Interested? Come along, meet the team and discover what volunteering with Squirrels is really like.
