Role Purpose
Poppy Appeal Organisers play a vital role in delivering the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal in their local area. The role involves coordinating fundraising activity, supporting volunteers, and ensuring poppies and fundraising materials are available across the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate the Poppy Appeal within an agreed local area
- Recruit, support and communicate with collectors and volunteers
- Arrange poppy box locations and deliveries
- Organise collections at supermarkets, schools, cadets, businesses and community venues
- Ensure fundraising materials (poppies, pins, boxes, contactless devices) are distributed and returned
- Collect, count and bank donations in line with RBL procedures
- Maintain accurate records of stock and income
- Act as a local ambassador for the Royal British Legion
Time Commitment
- Peak period: September to November (with Remembrance period being the busiest)
- Some preparation over the summer months
- Flexible time commitment depending on the size of the area and level of support
Skills
Skills & Experience
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Confidence engaging with people and local businesses
- Ability to work independently with support
- Basic admin skills (record‑keeping, emails, banking processes)
- No previous fundraising experience required – full support and guidance provided
