Education Specialist

We are seeking a specialist volunteer with a background in education or training to be a lead in our school workshops, delivered here at The Brickworks Museum. The right candidate will feel confident running workshops with school classes, mainly of primary age, with the support of our regular museum volunteers. 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Delivery and facilitation of sessions for the Learning and Education programme (including setting up and clearing down for each workshop). Sessions may be delivered to home education groups, school groups and other audiences as required. 

2. Delivery of workshops for families during holidays, this includes crafts and other creative activities. 

3. Spend time understanding our collections to support delivery of learning and education sessions and self-directed visits. 

4. Ensure all learning and education resources are replenished, cared for and used appropriately e.g. educational resources, museum trails, colouring sheets, handling collections and equipment. 

5. Ensure all legal requirements are adhered to, including health and safety, risk assessments, child protection and safeguarding.

Skills

Skills:

• Experience of working with a range of people is essential and the ability to create a welcoming, safe and encouraging learning environment. 

• We are looking for someone with curiosity and an interest in history and The Brickworks, enjoy working in a team and be willing to learn and inspire others to enjoy learning about the Museum collection.

• Previous experience of facilitation of either teaching, training or educational workshops is essential.

• Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential along with an enthusiastic approach to learning and education.

• Strong understanding of safeguarding practices and Equalities Act compliance. 

• Successful candidates will need to be able to work flexibly but working hours will be agreed in advance.
