Community Champions help Hampshire residents waste less and save money by reducing the amount of items they put in their bins, like food and textile waste, through providing information and encouraging them to take up new activities, such as meal planning, repairing, and home composting.
Our usual activities involve face-to-face engagement with the public, but our Champions can also engage with people remotely through social media, blogs, local papers and community groups.
Skills
The type of activities you might be involved in include:
- Give talks to interested groups, such as community groups, students and businesses.
- Identify and attend suitable local events at which to promote waste prevention.
- Carry out activities to show people how they can reduce food waste.
- Carry out activities to demonstrate how to use a compost bin.
- Carry out activities to inform people how to reduce other types of waste, as per your specific interests and knowledge.
- Contribute to articles for websites, community newsletters and local press.
However, the role is flexible and full training will be given. This role is important in changing public behaviour around consumption and waste generation, and will involve interaction with people from all backgrounds.
