About
Invisible Walls aims to improve the lives of children and families affected by imprisonment at HMP/YOI Winchester; reducing the risk of fathers reoffending on release and the perpetuation of intergenerational crime through strengthened family relationships.
The Invisible Walls Service includes:
- Engaging, supporting and signposting families during visits through the Visitors' Centre
- Offering play opportunities during prison visits, to improve the experience of children visiting a loved one inside
- Parenting support for fathers while they serve their sentences, and soon after release
- Monthly weekend Family Days
- Regular Homework clubs for school age children of fathers inside
- Facilitating local partnerships (e.g. social services, Children service, troubled families), leading information sharing and modelling multi-agency working in support of prisoners' families
- Workforce development and training to equip multi-agency workers with the skills and knowledge needed to support the families of prisoners
- Producing guidance and resources to support families of prisoners, fathers inside and practitioners, and inform safe practice
