Volunteer Invigilator (Seasonal)

We are a not for profit organisation that, aims 'to provide educational opportunities for school aged children, and to support parents of families who are educating their children at home'. Home Educated students are young students who are not attending mainstream school. We run face to face tutorials and exams (GCSE/IGCSEs) from our centre based at Titchfield Community Centre, Fareham.

We require volunteer invigilators to help us run the exams and also to help cover the costs of running our centre, enabling us to not charge the high level of fees that many other private exam and tutorial centre's do.

To become an invigilator, you need to know the rules and regulations we must abide by when running exams and we organise this through online training that can be taken at a time and place that suits you, - it's fairly straight forward and the training shouldn't take a huge amount of time. One of the good things is that if you get part way through the online training, you can save what you've done and go back to it later.

The most important element of the training is to invigilate with an experienced invigilator as soon as you can. The benefit of this part of the training is not only to take part in the invigilation according to the regulations, but to understand how our centre policies and practical processes are put in place to ensure that we cover them. Please be assured that whilst you're new to the role we would put you with an experienced invigilator and you won't be left by yourself, indeed one of our policies is always to have a minimum of 2 invigilators for any exam.

To help us we don't require you to be available every day, i.e. we know that some people can only do one morning a week or help on an ad-hoc basis, whilst others may be able to do more. Whatever you're able to do we appreciate it and we're aware you're giving up your free time. Morning exams start at 9 am and so we usually ask for invigilators to arrive at 8 am, and for the afternoon exams we usually ask for you to arrive at 12 noon (Oct/Nov exams) or 12.30 (summer exams).

Once you've done the online training, we'll give you access to our 'Dutyman' system that lists all the dates we need volunteers for and you can add yourself in on the dates that work for you.

We do allow for volunteers to claim your travel expenses, e.g. mileage or bus/train fees. Please ask us for further details if this applies to you.

We very much hope you will be able to help with this and look forward to receiving your requests.
