Volunteer Event Host - Repair Café Gosport, Repair Café Porchester and Repair Café Titchfield

...are all part of the Solent Repair and Reuse charity. Part of an international movement that empowers people to fix broken things rather than throw them away. We offer a friendly environment for guests and volunteers to socialise and help fix the broken items brought in.

We hold multiple events a month:

• Repair Café Gosport hosts events at various locations around Gosport on the second Saturday of the month. 
• Repair Café  Porchester hosts events at Porchester Community Centre on the last Saturday of the month
• Repair Café Titchfield hosts events at various locations around Titchfield on the third Saturday of the month, 4 times a year.

These events typically last 3 hours. As of September 2026, our volunteers have helped fix 3613 kg of items rather than throwing them away. 

We try to be as flexible as possible with our volunteers. There is no rota, and you will not be asked to commit in advance. Come to one event or every event; the choice will be up to you. Our goal is to ensure it is a positive experience that makes you want to keep coming back. It is incredibly rewarding to help people fix broken items, giving them the confidence to try to fix things themselves and avoid sending items to landfill.

The Host team is equally important as the volunteers helping guests repair their broken things. Our events are vibrant and busy; the hosts are vital to help our guests feel welcome and navigate the process.

Skills

You will need to interact with people, both our guests and volunteers. The rest of our team will be on hand to help you develop your confidence if necessary.

The hosting team do a wide range of things and this role can be adapted to want you want to do. Some of the things our hosting team does are:

• Help setup the venue and tidy up at the end
• Greeting guests and explaining the process
• Making sure guests get to socialise whilst they wait with a cup of tea or coffee
• Taking photos and preparing social media posts
• Ensuring guests are paired up with the right repairer, then keeping track of the repairs in progress
• Making sure that guest feedback is collected and encouraging donations
