Alongside her role as Volunteer Coordinator at Community First, Tanya also volunteers her time running ADHD & U CIC, a peer support community for adults living with ADHD.
Tanya started the group in 2023 after receiving her own ADHD diagnosis later in life. Following her diagnosis, she found there was very little aftercare or community support available for adults living with ADHD.
Wanting to create the kind of support she wished had been available to her, Tanya launched the group to help adults with ADHD find community, reduce isolation, and access peer support in a safe and understanding environment. Since starting, the group has continued to grow and officially became a Community Interest Company (CIC) in June 2025.
As Director and Peer Supporter, Tanya helps create a welcoming space where people can share experiences, access information, and feel understood without judgement. She is passionate about raising awareness, acceptance, and understanding of ADHD, while helping people feel less alone in their experiences.
Volunteering has also had a positive impact on Tanya personally. Being able to give back to her community gives her a strong sense of belonging and helps her feel part of the wider community. Through volunteering, she has also grown in confidence and found a real sense of purpose in supporting others.
Through her volunteering, Tanya has built a strong and supportive community for adults affected by ADHD in the local area. She believes that having somewhere people can openly talk, connect with others, and feel accepted can make a huge difference to wellbeing and confidence.
For Tanya, the most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing people realise they are not alone and watching supportive connections form between members of the group.
Tanya says she is passionate about helping people and hopes the group continues to grow so even more adults with ADHD can access support, understanding, and community.
