Volunteers’ Week 2025 – a local & UK-wide celebration

30 May 2025

Community First marks Volunteers’ Week 2025.

Volunteers’ Week returns this year after reaching its 40th anniversary last year. From 2 to 8 June 2025, Community First will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

Running every year since 1984, the week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.

Many organisations, for whom we help seek volunteers, will take part in awards ceremonies, coffee mornings and days out during the week. The celebrations aim to foster connections between national organisations and grassroots groups, celebrating the spirit of volunteering that enriches communities each year.

This Volunteers’ Week, and throughout the month of June, Community First will be celebrating our hundreds of volunteers by sharing volunteer success stories, attending community events to exhibit and promote volunteering, and thanking our very own volunteers. We’ll also be celebrating all things volunteering on our social media platforms and on our website.

Tim Houghton, Community First CEO, says: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities, giving time and effort to support people in need and look after and improve the places we love. Everyone can volunteer – there are so many local opportunities and good causes, and we always need more people to give a little. Why not take the plunge during Volunteers Week and give it a go? You’ll be amazed at the difference you can make and the rewards this will bring!”

Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.

The UK Volunteering Forum said: “Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week. Without volunteers

many charities just simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.”

Our Volunteering Service helps those who are looking to volunteer to find the perfect opportunity in their local area or from home. For more information, why not check out the hundreds of local roles on our website at www.volunteerfirst.org.uk or by emailing volunteer@cfirst.org.uk
