Volunteers’ Week 2024 & the return of the Big Help Out!

27 May 2024

Community First marks Volunteers’ Week 2024 and the return of the Big Help Out.

2024 marks the 40th year of Volunteers’ Week (3rd-9th June), when Community First will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. We hope to encourage people to be the change that we want to see and get involved in volunteering in whatever way works for them.

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society has never been more important.

Volunteering builds connections, grows skills and gives back to society. And it’s been shown to be good for the wellbeing of volunteers too. As part of Volunteers’ Week this year, we will also have the Big Help Out taking place from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June 2024. This is another great opportunity for people from across the UK to come together and experience how rewarding volunteering can be. The objective of The Big Help Out is to raise awareness of volunteering throughout the UK and provide opportunities for people to experience volunteering and make a difference in their communities. This is not a profit making or fundraising initiative.

This Volunteers’ Week, Community First will be celebrating our hundreds of volunteers by sharing volunteer success stories; attending community events to exhibit and promote volunteering opportunities; and thanking our very own volunteers. We’ll also be celebrating all things volunteering on our social media platforms and on our website

Tim Houghton, Community First CEO says: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Big Help Out as part of efforts to promote, celebrate and thank our wonderful volunteers during Volunteers Week in Hampshire. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities, giving time and effort to support people in need and look after and improve the places we love. Everyone can volunteer – there are so many local opportunities and good causes, and we always need more people to give a little. Why not take the plunge during Volunteers Week and give it a go? You’ll be amazed at the difference you can make and the rewards this will bring!

Our Volunteering Service helps those who are looking to volunteer to find the perfect opportunity in their local area or from home. For more information, why not check out the hundreds of local roles on our website at www.volunteerfirst.org.uk or by emailing volunteer@cfirst.org.uk

Happy Volunteering and Happy Volunteers’ Week 2024,
