A group of enthusiastic volunteers from Whiteley-based business, Specsavers, volunteered for a day to undertake conservation work at Holly Hill Woodland Park.
This volunteering day, arranged by Liza Smith from Community First’s Volunteering Service, brought a large party of 15 volunteers to Holly Hill Park for a day, led by Fareham Borough Council’s conservation ranger, Helen Sosnowski.
Holly Hill Woodland Park is one of Fareham’s best-known parks managed by Fareham Borough Council’s Countryside team. Originally designed as an estate park and arboretum, the team is working to slowly restore the 34-acre site to its former glory. Helen Sosnowski said: “Managing the invasive species at Holly Hill Woodland Park is very important and Specsavers are kindly helping out. As well as improving the Park’s biodiversity, it is a fun day too! Volunteers make a significant difference to our ability to manage our woodland areas so we particularly appreciate Specsavers making time to help out at this site.”
Sarah Newth, Global Head of Programming, said: “We are so pleased to spend the day helping Fareham Borough Council at Holly Hill. Bringing our group of employees out together is a great way to promote team work, boost morale and make a positive contribution to the local environment. Our team really enjoyed our day and we’d encourage more people to get involved in activities like this to help sustain our natural surroundings.”
