Getting into Volunteering

Julie Eden and Janet Duggan from our Volunteer Service team
On 27th February Peter Symonds Sixth Form College, Winchester held a Progression Fair for its students. There were representatives from universities and employers across the country with information for students who are thinking about life post ‘A’ levels. Numbers attending were high, despite the weather warnings and snow falling during the afternoon.
Community First, who are working in partnership with the College to attract students into volunteering, also had a stand. Students were encouraged to think about volunteering not only in terms of their personal statements for university, but also as a means to develop their soft skills and give something to the community.
A total of 2,500 students visited the Fair and their feedback was very positive, demonstrating that it helped motivate and inspire students to research the variety of options available to them.
